Grow your business with good systems, and liberate your staff |
Mention automating processes in the workplace, and rumours of redundancies start to circulate. If the bosses are shifting systems to software programmes that can do tasks in a fraction of the time a human takes, someone's got to go, right?
Wrong. Bespoke business systems - those which have been designed specifically for your business by software experts who have studied the way you work from the bottom up and know exactly what you want it to do - liberate your staff from mundane, labour intensive tasks. Those people who were beginning to flag, who were complaining that they didn't have time to do their job properly, who had stopped thriving in the workplace, suddenly find that those dull aspects of their job - tasks that, in fact, weren't really part of their job - have gone. They have hours in the day to do the role they were hired to do.
The savings in bespoke business systems are huge - sometimes immeasurable. But they won't replace your staff, they'll just help you to get the best from them. And, not only will you have a unique business system that will set you apart from your competitors in terms of efficiency and expertise, you've freed up your capital to invest in staff that will actually bring in business, not just keep track of the business you have.

| What's being Twittered and where? |
| One of the fascinating features of a technology as deceptively straightforward and ostensibly low-value as Twitter is the number of complex applications that are building up around it. This one http://trendsmap.com/ shows you what's being tweeted in a given area. As I write, the terms 'hungover' and 'payday' are trending in Blackburn, whilst Manchester appears to be discussing the 'Kendal Calling' festival. |

| As people become happier with the power of the track pad, will our interface with our personal computers change to be like this http://amzn.to/953Bld ? Or maybe something more like this http://www.10gui.com/ ? |

| Location based social media |
| It can be argued that the social media generation is happily disposing of the notion of its own privacy and Foursquare takes that one step further. Users register where they are at any given time, enabling businesses to make special offers directly to users on their premises, who in turn can make real time reviews of where they are, rating the atmosphere, service and goods of any establishment. When a user arrives in an area, they can check the best places to visit. |

| Windows' riposte to iPad |
| For those of you who were disappointed to find that the iPad was just a big iPhone, and not the big leap forward in portable computing you were hoping for, then keep an eye out for Microsoft 'slates''. From the sound of things, these will be far more like a PC operating system than a phone's, but maybe Steve Ballmer needs a lesson in marketing, telling the worldwide marketing conference that the devices would be "quite impressive". |

| Is your broadband connection limping rather than sprinting? |
| Broadband advertising offers often simplify a potentially complex purchase and your home or office may simply be unable to make use of the advertised speeds, and that's if the ISP actually delivers them. So, if you're paying for speeds that you just aren't seeing, then read this and contact your ISP: http://bit.ly/d74q0a |
