BAA appoints Meantime IT to deliver time-critical IT project
BAA Airports Ltd (BAA) has awarded a Cumbria-based IT company the contract to provide an ID centre booking system which will be used by more than 50,000 employees of BAA, its contractors, concessions, airlines and other personnel engaged in each of its six UK airports, including the UK’s largest airport, Heathrow.
Meantime IT, which operates from Kendal in Cumbria and employs ten members of staff, was awarded the contract on the basis of technical ability, competitive pricing and the company’s ability to deliver the live booking system within a three month deadline.
The web-based booking system Meantime has been appointed to develop will be used by the tens of thousands of personnel who work at BAA’s airports to apply for or renew the identification licences which are required by all airside and landside staff, including those working for contractors and concessions within the airport sites.
“We had a very tight deadline on the delivery of the system, and as such, it was essential that we appointed an IT company that was not only able to provide a robust, reliable system for a competitive price, but that also had the ability to deliver within a very short space of time,” says Lynn McNichol, project leader with BAA.
Fenner Pearson is Meantime’s managing director. “We’ve always applied the kind of standards to our organisation that one would find in a large blue chip organisation,” he says. “It’s been very gratifying to have these processes recognised by a successful global company such as BAA, which would not have appointed us as had we not been able to demonstrate our ability to match the procedures used by far larger software companies.
“Meantime’s ethos has always been to deliver projects on time, on budget and to the exact specification of the client, and we’re delighted that this commitment to excellence in IT has been recognised by BAA on such a time-sensitive project,” concludes Fenner.
